Opal App Review 2026

A general attention and focus app built around a Score, Rules and a Timer you set and edit yourself. Verified pricing, no invented ratings.

Opal is a $19.99-a-month focus app that blocks apps you choose during scheduled sessions you control from inside the app. It works well for everyday distraction, but the same Rules and Timer that make it flexible also mean the person using the phone can always edit or end them, which is the specific gap a held passcode closes.

What Opal actually is

Opal is a general attention and focus app, not a category-specific blocker. Its homepage headline is "Attention on autopilot," and its product is built around three named mechanics: a Score that rates your phone habits, Rules you set for which apps are blocked and when, and a Timer for scheduled focus sessions.

It is aimed at reducing everyday phone distraction across any app, work or social, rather than at a compulsive-use category the way Get0's individual verticals are.

What its own site claims about results

Opal's homepage states a 4.8 average from roughly 150,000 ratings. That is the company's own reported figure, not a number we independently verified, and we cannot confirm the methodology behind it. We are noting what they claim, not endorsing it as fact.

The gap a self-managed Rules and Timer cannot close

Opal's Rules and Timer are configured by the same person using the phone, and that person can edit a Rule, end a session early, or turn the whole thing off from inside the app whenever they choose. For everyday distraction, that flexibility is a feature. For a compulsive habit, it is the exact failure mode: the moment willpower is lowest is also the moment someone can just change the setting.

Get0 does not give you a Rule to edit. It sets an iOS Screen Time passcode by voice, you never see the digits, and the countdown you pick starts the moment you lock, 1 to 30 days, with the passcode emailed automatically when it hits zero and no in-app override.

Questions people actually ask

Is Opal built specifically for porn or gambling use?

No. It is a general focus and attention tool covering any app you choose to add to a Rule, not a category-specific blocker the way Get0's individual products are.

Can I turn off an Opal Rule whenever I want?

Yes, per its own product design. Rules and Timers are meant to be adjustable by the person using the app.

Is Opal cheaper than Get0?

No. Opal is $19.99 a month, $99.99 a year, or $399 lifetime, all higher than Get0's $7, $77 and $177 at the equivalent tier, both verified 2026-09-05.

Does Opal have a free trial?

Opal's own site directs new users to a free trial signup rather than showing pricing on the homepage; check its current offer directly, since trial terms change more often than list prices.

Which one is actually right for me?

If the goal is generally cutting down phone time across many apps and you trust yourself to keep adjusting the Rules honestly, Opal is built for that. If you have a specific habit you have already failed to stop with a setting you can edit yourself, a lock with no in-app override is the different tool.
