Freedom App Review 2026

A general distraction blocker built around sessions with a length you set yourself. Verified pricing, no invented ratings.

Freedom is an $8.99-a-month distraction blocker where you select devices, choose what to block, and set a session length yourself. It has a free tier and a real user base, but the session length is your own choice from the start, while Get0 runs on a fixed countdown you pick when you lock, with the passcode emailed automatically once it hits zero.

What Freedom actually is

Freedom is a general distraction blocker, not a category-specific tool. Its own homepage describes an explicit three-step process: select the devices you want covered, choose what to block, and set a session length. Its headline is "Block distractions, unblock your life," and it runs a free tier alongside paid plans.

This is a session model: you decide in the moment how long the block runs, then it ends on its own when the session is up.

What it costs

Verified against the App Store listing, checked 2026-09-05. Freedom also offers a limited free tier before any paid plan.

What its own site claims about results

Freedom's homepage states more than 4 million users. That is the company's own reported figure, not a number we independently verified, and we cannot confirm the methodology behind it. We are noting what they claim, not endorsing it as fact.

The gap a self-set session cannot close

The session length in Freedom is chosen by the same person starting the block, and we were not able to verify whether Freedom offers any mode that removes the ability to end a session early or uninstall the app mid-session. What is clear from its own product description is that the block is time-boxed by the user at the start: you decide how long it runs, and it runs out on a schedule you set.

Get0 works differently in one specific way. There is no session to set a length for. The Screen Time passcode is spoken once and never shown to you, and the length you pick starts counting down the moment you lock, 1 to 30 days, with the passcode emailed automatically when it hits zero.

Questions people actually ask

Is Freedom built specifically for porn or gambling use?

No. It is a general distraction blocker covering any apps or sites you select, not a category-specific product the way Get0's individual products are.

Can I end a Freedom session early?

We were not able to verify Freedom's exact session-ending behavior from its public product description. What its own site describes is a session length you set yourself at the start.

Is Freedom cheaper than Get0?

Close, and slightly more. Freedom is $8.99 a month, $39.96 a year, or $99.50 lifetime against Get0's $7, $77 and $177, both verified 2026-09-05. Freedom also has a free tier, which Get0 does not.

Does Freedom have a free option?

Yes, per its own site. Freedom runs a free tier alongside its paid plans, which Get0 does not offer.

Which one is actually right for me?

If you want to block distractions for a set window of time you choose yourself, session by session, Freedom is built for that. If you have a specific habit where you keep restarting the session or ending it early, a restriction with no end date you can see or set is the different tool.
